REVAMPED PICK N PAY CLOTHING

11 November 2024

Our newly revamped store is an immersive celebration of South African heritage and African diversity, inspired by the enduring legacy of Pick n Pay's founder, Mr. Raymond Ackerman. Designed to enhance the customer experience, the space blends cultural richness with modern elegance, creating a journey that resonates with both local heritage and sustainable innovation.

As you enter, an inspirational wallpaper featuring Mr. Ackerman’s famous quotes sets a welcoming tone, inviting you to explore a thoughtfully crafted space. The store’s design pays tribute to South African and African identity. Wardrobe-like display bays showcase prints from local tribes, reflecting the vibrancy and diversity of our traditions. Above, a gold ceiling panel intricately etched with tribal motifs honours Johannesburg, the “City of Gold.” Our commitment to nature is symbolised by a live green wall in the shape of the African continent, standing as a testament to sustainability.

Unique design features enhance this journey through Africa. Display tables shaped like the continent highlight key exports from various countries, while a representation of the Nile River flows through the store, symbolically connecting us to the geographical heart of Africa. In the fitting rooms, each cubicle is dedicated to a different African country South Africa, Egypt, Botswana, and Nigeria—with details that celebrate their unique identities. Doors display welcome signs in the languages of each country, while engraved national flowers and wooden cut-outs of each country painted in their national colours add an authentic touch. Murals and art installations, created in collaboration with local artists, celebrate iconic landmarks, offering a fitting room experience unlike any other.

Aligned with our dedication to sustainability, the store has been designed to achieve a Level 5 certification from the Green Building Council. Ecofriendly materials are used throughout, including hangers made from recycled yoghurt cups, 100% LED lighting, and store furnishings repurposed from recycled metals. Every aspect has been crafted to reduce our environmental footprint without compromising on style or comfort.

To commemorate this exciting launch, the first 100 guests will receive a complimentary copy of Raymond Ackerman’s book. The book, Four Legs of the Table, will be displayed on a custom-designed table that mirrors the iconic cover. Additionally, we are introducing a limited-edition retro Pick n Pay shopping bag—a timeless keepsake to mark this milestone.

Our newly designed space is crafted to make every part of your visit inspiring and enjoyable, from the moment you walk into the final checkout. We look forward to welcoming you to an experience that combines heritage, sustainability, and a modern shopping experience in one memorable journey.
