Thrifts By Flav (TBF) is a second hand clothing store that was established on Instagram in 2018. Flavia, the owner and founder of TBF, became interested in thrifting after finding a thrift store on Instagram and realising the potential that lies in online and sustainable shopping. As a conscious consumer herself, Flavia set out thrifting and on her first ever thrifting endeavour, it led to her finding 10 jackets that were then sold out over night. Thereafter, the establishment of her brand was a no-brainer. With a growing following and an increase in interest, she decided to expand her range of products, adding several items such as retro button-ups, corduroy jackets and reworked denim accessories, the brand grew to be more than just festive 70s windbreakers.

This creative young entrepreneur saw an opportunity in sustainable shopping as each passing year showed the rise of the conscious consumer. This was selflessly embraced with open arms trying to prevent and reduce the gentrification of thrifting by creating as many employment opportunities as possible to empower local creators and minimize textile and garment waste.

Following the success of the Instagram-based store, a website was launched. Soon thereafter they opened the doors to their first brick-and-mortar store in the Mall of Africa, making Thrifts By Flav the first ever thrift store in a super regional mall in South Africa. This store includes curated pieces that are hand-picked to ensure consistency and it also features local women-owned and run businesses.
